Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She is also the first and youngest woman to receive a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka is the new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was born in London in 1982. During the first few years of her life she was split between London New Delhi. Her debut concert was on stage in New Delhi at the tender age of 13. In the following years she moved to Encinitas CA she attended high school. She graduated with distinction in the year 1999. Anouskha even though she is just a teenager, has had a successful performing and recording career. She performs regularly alongside her father and has done so for a long time years. Her debut single album Anourag in the year 1998. The album was titled the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. Stage performance is a important aspect of her life. She's played in many famous venues around the world. Anoushka isn't just a musician. In 2002 she published a book entitled Bapi The Love of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which gives a special tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. She also acted on movie in 2003. The role she played was that of an Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her career and there will be many other things to be expected from this amazing woman. Anoushka Shankar is an English born singer who travelled her childhood split between London, Delhi and California. She began studying music at the age nine and was a sitar player to commemorate the 75th anniversary of her father's birth in Delhi just four years after. Anoushka has gained lots of experience by touring the world with her dad. She performed at Carnegie Hall in her teenage period, as well as recorded for George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. It is the House of Commons Shield was presented an award from the British Parliament as the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and the youngest winner of this prize.
